Long Distance
It’s interesting to look at the ways women are portrayed in advertising.
It’s a mixed bag of two steps forward/one step back moments throughout time. Food for thought.
So theres a slew of ads from the 50s pushing longer landline cords that could extend to different areas of housework. Practical. Necessary. I’d shoot that ad if I was asked.
But thats all the ads ever showed. Baking was a foregone conclusion.
But what if she needed a longer phone cord because she was going to space? Or because she’s directing a Western? Or because she’s finishing the touches on her line for fashion week (power suit edition) ?
It’s simple portrayals of possibilities in everyday life that quietly encourage us to keep going towards our dreams.
So we extended the realm of possibilities to show those options, too.
